A friend of mine was heading to Sturgis with 2 other friends from Houston. They stop over at a hotel in Lubbock, TX for the night. Park near the check in area, well lighted. Came out this morning and found that his bike was stolen. The other 2 were still there. He had no security system and did not lock it. He had a 2010 Wide Glide.
Be safe.....

What a terrible feeling. On top of ruining his trip.
Hate bike thieves. One of the lowest forms of life. IMO

This site seem`s legit. May want to let your Friend know about it.
Stolen 911

And lock your bike. Not locked and no security is begging to have your bike stolen.

Sadly, scum will take it, but at least take the steps to prevent theft.
What a feeling of violation.

Hey. . . . ENJOY THE NEW BIKE

That sucks for sure, but based on the title of this thread I thought you were going to say that your friend got in a wreck. Stuff can be replaced. Glad he only lost his ride.
If I ever get around to taking overnight trips, I plan on taking along a HONDA bike cover. I doubt the thieves will bother with a Honda cover on it.
Its just so much trouble to take your little key & put it in the lock and turn it . Whew !
That wore me out just typing it all .
I like the old method of a slot for your LOCKSMITH lock & key . Got to have bolt cutters to get that one .
I've been very lucky over the years. I have been fortunate so many times to have the manager of motels I stay at on the road allow me to park right up by the front door where the scoot is visible to them. So far, so good!
I wonder how many bikes were stolen by Sonny Barger and his gang of criminals and yet most on here revere him

later, dozer

p.s. jus sayin
Why would you think everyone or most here would have any sort of affection for Barger or the Angels? Just curious.
nothing worse than a thief. dozer, I am surprised that you think barger would be held in high regard by our members, most on here seem to have a strong dislike for criminal types.
First a pox on the thieves sex organs...
Next, when I travel, I try to only stay in places where I can park the bike in front of my room.
Next, I carry a six foot long security cable (plastic sheather so it won't scratch) and 2 good lock with long tangs that I can lock to posts, fences, lock back on the cable, etc.
If I travel with buddies, mostly 3 at a time, we park the bikes side by side, then I lock the cable to the frame on the first bike, thru the frame on MY bike in the middle and then lock the other end to the third bike.
We leave a window open in the room to hear better. If I'm alone, I lock my bike to a post or steel railing, etc.
Plus we all have security systems to help.
I have also paid the night desk folks to keep an eye on our bikes...Usually they are very good about it. To make sure, we give them a fiver that night and promise them another in the morning...
So far so good...knock on wood (my head...LOL)...
Heaven help the person if we EVER catch them trying to steal our bikes...they won't do it again...tasmanian devilx3...nlol

But I bet ya lock it.
LOCK IT OR LOSE IT........ ive a bad habit of not locking my scoot but then again i dont leave her out side. if i get a room she goes inside too. she is always garaged.

Unfortunately, the front fork lock helps, but I watched a youtube vid of a scumbag stealing a bike and he broke the fork lock in 1-2 minutes with ease...
Go for a combination of security measures so they go on to the next bike or car, etc...
That blows.. Sorry to hear that, but as someone mentioned above, things are replaceable.
With deep regrets,
When we stay away from home since my scoot is a garage baby it stays in a cooled room with me better safe than sorry.
