My wife's had 13 inch shocks, but they were too tall so I got a set of 12 inch from a friend that he took off of his sportster. Burly makes some slammer shocks that are only 10.5 inches
Go to your bike, take a tape measure with you and measure your shocks.
center of mounting bolt to center of mounting bolt, it really isnt that hard to do
Are different Model Sportsters with different length shocks .. The Longer the shock the more travel for comfort although progressive recommends not going over 1 inch away from stock length which can be measured as stated above ..
I ordered the 12" and after noticed that the stock length was 11 1/2" The shocks range from 11" to 13 1/2"
How much would 1/2" longer affect the ride? Should I send them back and get 11 1/2? They have already shipped but haven't received them yet.
11.5" will give the bike a tad lower stance. You'll probably like it more then the 12". The shock will have about 3/8" less travel. Make sure the tire clears the hardware and wiring as it will sit deeper into the fender.

You're saying the stock 11 1/2 will sit deeper and have less travel? Will the bike sit 1/2" higher in the rear with 12"? Why do they offer shocks up to 13 1/2"??:whoa

I bought these in the 13 inch length for my 92 XLH1200. The stock 11 inch shocks beat the $%@& out of my back and bottomed out constantly. These have improved my riding pleasure and have yet to bottom out, even with 2 up riding. One thing though, dont be stubborn like me and try to install them without putting the bike on a lift. A lift will save you aggrevation, and make installation a dream.
I'm 230-240lbs so maybe the 12" will be ok.
if you are replacing the shocks with the same length, you might be able to do it without a lift, doing one at a time. otherwise, if you dont have a lift, try to set the frame on a cement block or something, then take off both rear shocks, and the rear wheel will drop a bit, then go from there
All things being equal, longer shocks have more travel and give a better,
more compliant ride. Longer shocks can use a softer spring.
Shorter shocks can ride just fine with the proper spring but the shorter you go the

But it's sounding like it could be the primary chain so I tryed to take out a little slack.. And no i didnt do it properly.. But it was lose as it sat.. But it didnt do no good..

I have a 07 1200 custom took it out Fri ran great went to start it sun it fired once then wouldn't start. Same thing today I replaced the battery in the fob as it was giving me trouble before it is fine now but bike won't start I pulled the plugs they are wet I dried them and put them back in...

Hi, I just put on LEDS on my 883 and turned on my motorcycle and the red key is now on speedometer. No fob, or alarm system and still runs.
What does this mean?
Could it be the new LEDS causing it?
Also, the blinking frequency is more rapid. It this normal?
