just recieved new replacement crank assembly for 09 xl nighty, looks nice but notice the lack of small end drilled holes in the rods.
Are there any dealer mechanics out there that can tell me if this is a factory supersession....???? ie no lubrication required there now.
this is a full width rod assembly.

I think I'd do a follow up with H-D. Unless they've changed something, Sportsters have floating piston pins, and should have an oil hole in the top of each rod. My parts book for 2009 models show the holes, but of course parts books pictures are quite often just examples, not to be trusted. However they still list piston pin clips, and small end bushings which are not needed with pressed rods.

well the word back from HD is as follows.....word for word.
The crank is correct, there was a production change and the hole was removed. There is nothing wrong with that crank you have....signed ......
