Sporty spanks a V-rod in 1/4 mile!

I just got in from our annual "Houston Drags." It's true, this 89" Sporty will spank a stage one V-rod. I now have time slips to show that it will pull past the "Rod," by about three tenths and 3 or 4 miles an hour consistantly. These new slips show that it would have stayed even as a 1200 done up. There is a LOT more potential to this motor. It was assembled as a "warmed up" kit from S&S. Thank you S&S, Sam.:stir Now you know where "Smokin Sam comes from.

:stirThe guy on the rod has about three years at the track and a couple of races on me this year. This was my first time at the strip in two years. I did mention that the Sporty was "warmed up." You could bring your V-rod and I'll show you. There is another race next weekend.:stir

That's a different looking Houston than the one I'm used to.

I'm no drag racer, but I'd believe it if you beat Big Worm...maybe we can talk V-girl into going to your neck of the woods.

What do you have going on with your Sporty?

well it ain't stock by no means. so it could very well be faster, than a stock vrod. but none the less theres always somebody faster, if we ever do cross paths i'll race you or anybody else for that matter. v-girl is up north with you maybe you can test her skillz.

Was the V-Rod a 1130cc? 1250cc? Larger cc? Model? Year?

Do we know the build on the vrod? Worked motor vs worked motor or worked motor vs stock or slightly worked motor?

I'm sure the v has fuel management and pipes but is it a track bike or a street bike?

Either way I wouldnt mind taking a spin on that Sporty.

Thanks for the interest. The sporty IS wound up a bit. It is an 89 cu in S&S motor that I built myself. It is a 1991 model and is my daily driver. It is carbd, no NOS. (Just the drink bottle catch can.) The ignition is a Dyna and the pipe is a modified, (I mess with everything) Hard Chrome Double D. I do my own head porting and set up. This is basically a stock "Hot Set Up." It only runs about three tenths and one mph quicker than it did as a 1200. That motor was wound up! I will pull the 89" down this winter and give it the "special treatment" to wind it up a little tighter too. It is a hoot to ride cause it pulls wheelies like a dirt bike when you stuff it into second. Sam.

An 89 cu in breathed on Sporty beat a stage 1 (air cleaner) 70 cu in VROD? I wouldn't be too proud of that.

It would stay even as a 1200 too. What does your sporty do?

Stage one = pipes, K&N, and a download, supported and tuned by the local HD shop. A watercooled, 12.5:1, double overhead cam, four valve V-rod puts out WELL over a hundred horse. They are Harley's "fast bike." Doncha know?

1458 CC? I'm interested to see what you can get out of that wound tight.

Would you mind posting up your 1200 build that was only a hair slower than your 89?

Do you have any Dyno results on either build, and would you mind posting them up?

I want to see what it will do once the 89" is done up too. It was run as a "stock" kit to establish a baseline.

The 1200 was done with my headwork and compression, I reworked the stock carb and made a custom intake, it ran the same Dyna ignition and some N-4 cams (pretty mild). I made a set of three step headers. You may be able to see them in the "Sporty pics." Oddly I have never done a dyno run on either motor. Maybe this fall before it gets torn down for tweaking.:thumb
