Throttle "Blip'n it"?

12664 Views 79 Replies 37 Participants Last post by  bobf
I believe everybody does it no matter what they ride...but it does sound nice on a big V-twin w/the right pipes.
Thought i read on this forum somewhere that "Blip'n" the throttle does put some excessive wear on the cam chain tensioners on the 88 tc. motors with the spring loaded tensioners. Any thought's?

Waste of gas. "blipping" of throttle causes no more wear on the cams or tensioners than shifting.

I'd challenge anyone to prove that it does.

It adds wear to the riders neck, when he's looking around to see who's looking at him......
True ^^^^^ Need ear plugs around some of them.........
To me it's the sign of a poser. I tune my bike(s) so they idle perfectly, I know the friction zone of the clutch so I can make smooth starts. I don't need anyone to hear how bad ass I am, I know (that's why I carry). :)
Only time I blip is when it is 30 degrees out, and the choke just isn't quite cutting it that day for some reason. The other 999 times out of 1000 it is never needed and just serves to show you don't know how to ride a bike correctly and that you are immature.

So when you say "Everybody does it" I think you will find almost NO ONE on here does because we all realize there is no point to it unless your bike is tuned poorly.

Maybe everyone around you does it...that of course I can't speak to I am just trying to speak to the generalization so far as this forum is concerned.
I've found myself slightly doing that on my 94 at a red light if it was still not warmed up enough. Not to the "high rever" guy tho. The 13 fatboy does not need anything at all.
I blip. Occasionally. I like how my bike sounds.

Usually on a downshift tho, 98% of the time. Or out of sheer boredom.

I think you blip more than you're leading on to blipping.

Next to your bike, I was blipping just to see my tach move, so I knew my bike was still running.......:D
That's why I mentioned the boredom. If I have to slow down, I may blip from boredom.

Thankfully, I don't care what you bastards think. Lol

Yep, I also blip on downshifts--makes for smoother changing of gears. If you were deaf and riding with me you wouldn't even know when I went to a lower gear. Other than that I don't feel the need to blip. Oh, wait a minute. There was the time about 9 or 10 bikes came to a red light under a double overpass. Blipping and reving sounded cool!
If you blip it more than 3-4 times to annoy the cranky nosey neighbor who constantly ask you. "Why all those bikes parked in your drive way, you working on bikes now?" I'm sure that's ok.
I`m a blip`n idiot going under an overpass or through a tunnel. :dunno

I've told more than one neighbor to head for the end of my driveway and mind their own fn business.

Cuz you're a badass.
Andy likes to blip and crank speed metal on his stereo in my driveway at 5am leaving for the Collision after I went door to door the night before to apologize in advance and promise everyone we'd do our best to "sneak out." :rollin
I blip at lights to get the morons to put the smartphones down when the light changes. quite effective.
Blipping

I blip to down shift ,in fact the instructor in our MSF course said rev-matching is the proper downshift method also the instructor in the CDL driver course and years of ,spirited ,driving in twisties with a Manual transmission ,easier on clutch and brakes ,prevents rear wheel lock-up. I'm sure there are more reasons than just sounding good, lol.
Oh I like the blipping to make the phone users put down the phone.
Yes to all,i compare it to a good fart, now who does'nt think that kinda blip'n ain't funny as hell? But i do believe like some have said, it is a good attention getter for the D.F. cellphone users who would cut you off and then get all pissed at you when you remind them how lucky they truely are at the next light.
My scoot gets alot of attention at stops don't need the silliness of hey!
