What damage should I be expecting, when shifting without a clutch on 2005 harley fatboy?

It is a constant mesh transmission. If you shift easily, and use the throttle right, virtually no damage will occur. I have shifted all of my motorcycles without the clutch OCCASIONALLY. It will put some extra wear on the leading edge of the engagement dogs. Air shifters cut the power for the split second of the shift. Downshifting is more damaging.

I use the clutch to start and stop, never had a trans. problem. But I've only been riding since 1965. Drove a 13 speed truck for a few years the same way with zero problems. joe

You can expect the shift return spring to fail. When that happens drain the trans right away that hopefully the broken spring will come out on the drain plug magnet. If the broken spring remains in the trans it'll eventually go thru the gears and break teeth.
