Uh oh….. how do I get this thing off?!

My brand new, 2003 Harley Davidson Fatboy arrived today. The reason I say brand new is because it was in a private collection and there isn’t a ding or scratch anywhere…..looks like it came right off the showroom floor. However, there was a long, one piece two-up seat on it and I wanted to go solo seat. When I took the old seat off, there was this opaque plastic paint protector sheet along the rear fender. So, my question is how do I get this off without ruining the paint?

If applying heat, use a hair dryer rather than a heat gun.

Or leave it and you can swap out seats anytime w\out scratching your paint.

There's no glue on that clear protector, it adheres just like window tint. Pull up a corner and start peeling.

I'd be checking the Build Date on the Tires.

First, I tried to lift a corner to peel if off…..came off in microscopic pieces. Next I used a hair dryer…..still came off in microscopic pieces. I’ve ordered some goo off and I’ll try it next. At this rate it will take me a week to get this thing off.

Don't think that will help.
Thinking time and patience will be your best friends.

Maybe. And I do mean MAYBE. You could try some nylon fishing line.
Work it under the edge. Using a sort of sawing motion as you pull it down the length of the piece.
Very well may not work. But the line should not hurt your paint while trying.
Have had good luck with this method debadging vehicles with no damage to the paint.

Thanx.
I just looked and see this bike is 20 years old ! No wonder that clear film is coming off in little pieces ! There might be a shadow on the fender after that thing is removed too !

Hope the goo off doesn’t ruin your paint. It is some pretty nasty stuff. Make sure you wear gloves.

After a 2 ounce bottle of Goo Gone, a nylon scraper and an hour of elbow grease, the paint protector is finally off. No swirls or scratches and the paint is fine.

Nice job, especially the patient part.
