Upgrading the sound help

Have a 14 SG and looking at options when it comes to upgrading the sound. I basically want improvements over stock at the cheapest possible way. I don't know what's good or bad when it comes to audio. I am not sure if I can upgrade the speakers and get the improvements I want or will have to do the whole kit. Hogtunes has the amp and speakers for $429. That's more than I really want to spend, not trying to sound cheap just did some powder coating and plan to do a few other things.

I put the Boom! speakers in my 14 street glide special without upgrading the amp and it made a HUGE difference! I love it.
Next door neighbor has these and they sound better than my stock speakers so I was considering getting a pair and installing them over the winter:

Bazooka MCC5252 Harley Davidson Speakers, 5-1/4" 2 ohm Pair

At $80 they seem like a good buy....

What bike did he have them installed in? Might assume they are not water proof.

They made that much difference? I will have to check them out. Would like to avoid getting an amp right now.

You have me thinking now
I put this Amazon.com : Rockford Fosgate PBR300X2 Punch 300-Watt 2-Channel Boosted Rail Amplifier : Vehicle Stereo Amplifiers : Car Electronics on my 97 FXSTC, along with a set of uniq cycle sounds speakers. It was a major upgrade from the amp that came with the speakers.
Save and do it right the first time.

Audio is not my thing, don't know what's good or bad. I was hoping to get some speakers and no amp at this time if it will improve the over all sound. I don't really have any issues with the current set up except it's winter and I want to do something lol

Hogtunes are ok but way over priced. You can get better sound by adding 300watt Rockford fosgate 2 or 4 channel amp and a set of Alpine marine speakers for less the costs. I tried the hogtunes on my 08 SG then switched to the latter set up.
