I have a 2009 Ultra Classic that has the stock factory Harmon-Kardon radio receiver unit. Recently it has started to cut out on the volume but it still shows on the display that it is on and playing. The only way to get the sound back on is to turn the unit off and back on and then it will come back on for a few miles then cut out again. This is very annoying and the Harley dealership says nothing can be found wrong. Anyone else ever heard of or had this problem?

Check to see if the CB has been enabled. If so, disable it and yer back in bin-ness... not that it ever happened to me, of course....

If that ain't it, take a look at the speaker switch on the dash... just thinking.

My buddy has a 08 ultra, doing the same thing. Check with your shop there should be a service bulletin on the bolts around the radio. Bolts are to long and hitting the radio causing the problems. He just removed his radio and sending it to Iron Cross Audio for repair. Cheaper than buying a refurbished radio from dealership.

The stock radio on my '09 Ultra Classic is doing the same thing. If I flip the 3-way speaker switch back and forth the sound will come back on. It's been doing that for about 7 months. I thought it may have been the switch but I replaced it and it's still doing it. I haven't decided yet to get it repaired or go with an after march unit.

I heard that Iron Cross remanufactures these radios with a heavier duty setup than factory. My '12 was still under warranty when mine went out so I dealt with the dealer. Same symptoms you indicated- sound cutoff periodically but display still worked. Eventually sound never returned. Went completely out as we were travelling through Tennessee- a real pi$$er! Dealer replaced the head unit when we got home.

If you are out of warranty you might want to contact Iron Cross- they could also change your display colors ;) and or move your Aux port to the back for an inner fairing Aux plug/cable setup.

Harley knows these radio are junk . Go in and ask them about your problem and they will say (Oh yal, we know, were starting to see problems with the 2014 now) cutting out radio's nothing new to them.My front speakers used to come and go,now front just gone.Sons 2011 comes and go's also.

Had that issue with my 07. Harley will install a refurbished unit, not a new one. After my second radio went with the same issues I called Biketronics. Changed the whole stereo system and still can use my controls.

It's a common problem with these radios. The twisting of the handlebars and bumps in the road cracks the little solder connections on the circuit board inside the radio. I'm on my 3rd radio already. Iron cross did one of my radios. Only lasted about a year than started the same thing all over again. They also never reflashed the radio so my factory amp could play my rear speakers. Had to go to the dealer. Now I just took it out and installed one from a road glide 2 speaker system. Now I'm back to no rear speakers again. I installed the xm mogule so I atleast have my satellite radio. I left the cb mogule and the GPS mogule out since I don't use it anyway. I just have to get the radio reflashed again. Will see how long this one's going to last. Also check your brackets too. Mine are good but they have been known to Crack. Hope this helps answer your concerns.
