weird engine sound today

I think the bike may have got warm at a stop light and it started to sound weird to me. Was this the bike dropping to one cylinder to help cool it off? It was like a constant put-put-put sound instead of the normal Harley sound. It went away with a slight twist of the throttle but would come right back. I got the bike to do it again when I got home and let it idle in the garage for a minute. It got to about 77* out today, so not really too hot out. I'm hoping this isn't anything bad, I only have 740 miles on the bike.

When it starts doing it again. Roll the throttle forward and hold it for a few seconds. The cruise light should flash orange. This will turn off the cylinder kill.
Its called EITMS...Engine Idle Temperature Management System (or Software)...search for it on the forum, or info regarding it should be in your Owner's Manual.

It started in 2009, with free flash upgrades for some 2008 owners.

Thank you, that's what I thought it was but wanted to make sure. They talked about it at the dealer, but never really heard it till yesterday.
Why would his engine get so hot during such mild temperatures ? Another example of the MOCO's stop-gap procedure's for extremely poor engineering ? At these prices surely they can do better than that !
Hmmm...77 degrees, no air flowing past the engine...so how long was this idling 'for a minute', and was it just after a ride?

I can make mine go into EITMS if I idle long enough at that temperature. If it bothers you, just disable it per the manual. It takes longer than my '08 (that had the flash upgrade), and the '14 Ultra has been remapped (runs cooler) and has the waterhead.

BTW, it has been suggested that EITMS actually means 'Engineering Idiocy The MoCo Supplies' :)
