what kind of mpg is everybody seeing?

Alright everyone, been riding my sporty for a few years now which has been an absolutely great bike as a solo rider, but i now have a great girl to take along with me on rides and while i'm not the tallest guy out there at 6'2", it still gets a bit scrunched with an extra rider on the back.
That being said, I'm going to be looking at upgrading in the spring to a road king! My budget is potentially looking like it'll be around 9k at that point which puts me up to a fairly low mileage '05 in the bikes around my area. My big question is what kind of mpg all of you guys are seeing on average? both in the 88ci and 96ci engine sizes if you could! although i know mpg is isn't everything for everybody but I'd like to see 40+ mpg out of the bike. if that's not realistic that's alright, just trying to get an idea of what's realistic, I'm also considering a dyna wide glide which i'm sure is capable of getting that.

Road King is the best Harley IMO, especially at your height. I got a consistent 39MPG on my 2012 but I have mental condition that keeps opening the throttle up.

41 on my Heritage. Mostly 3rd 4th & 5th gears. And that's with the windshield.
Keeping it under 50 I have gotten 46, usually an escorted group ride. 55-60 around 42. 65+ drags it into the high 30's. Headwind makes a huge impact also riding full tanks on Thruway.

They are all around 40 . My Ultra with screaming eagle air cleaner and slipons with a P.C.V gets 42 and that's normal riding, not trying to get the best mileage . I don't hammer on it either .
My '05 FXD with 88in and Stage 1 is consistent at 43.

BTW, I am on the tollway @80mph for 70 miles a day.
I've got the 103 cu in, 5 speed tranny. At 65 mph, it will go all day at 42 mpg. 75 mph close to 40 mpg, depending on road conditions. It was dyno tuned, has a P C V, modified exhaust. My point is, even with a bigger engine you can hit what your looking for.
Mine is pretty close to the one you're considering. Stock 88" with mild Stage 1. Rinehart TD, PC III, SE air. My mileage is directly connected to my right wrist. Ranges from 42-44 for mild cruising to 36-38 "cruising" at 80-85. Stage 1 upgrade may have actually improved MPG from stock slightly.

You will love getting onto a Road King.

Mine varies so much depending on how I ride, that I stopped keeping track.

My 07 FB with cams and headwork (A tad over 100hp) got around 36-37 when riding a little hard...
I weigh 290.

'05 Heritage Classic, Stage 1, 38.
'14 Ultra Limited 40.
I got to be doing something very wrong....
2005 Softail w/ 95 inch cammed motor (dyno)....34 mpg
2006 Ultra w/ Jims 120 (mult dyno runs).....32 mpg
2005 RK carbeurated w/ stone stock motor....32 mpg
I ride like any normal person, I'm generally easy on the throttle, and I ride 98% on highway. I would have to chug along at 25mph in 3rd gear to see 40 mpg. What the hell am I doin wrong? :feedback:
I've been getting 40-41 on my Limited.
I've got an '05 RK that has Stage III upgrades (bored, head work, crank work, cams, bigger carb & breather, dual exhaust). I consistently get around 38 mpg.

oh ya for sure, would ideally get in the 96 cu in motor but will take an 88 if the deal is right, who knows, a year from now my budget could grow a bit, buying my first house this fall so by next year i might not be so tight with my money haha.

But all of the is great news, also looking to take a few long trips on it next year which just seem like they might be out of reach for me on the sportster (i know i know, man up haha)

But thanks everybody!
'08 Ultra. 96 cu Stock. I've been keeping track for the past year with an app on my iPhone.

Of all of those refuelings:

High of 47.2
Low of 33.4 Must have been riding with Diezel.

Overall average of 39.4
The first few times I have checked on my 14 Ultra Limited I'm seeing 42.. Much more then I was getting on my Goldwings. I would only see 30 to 35..

What's a "Goldwing"?
What's a "Goldwing"?
Its that point and time where the beautiful chicken wing turns golden brown letting you know it is done in the frier... # know

I have a 2009 Dyna Super Glide with 53k on the odometer. The bike has an S&S 551 easy start cam, big sucker intake, and a D&D Fat Cat 2-into-1 exhaust. The tuner is V&H fuel pack.

The bike is averaging between 48.5 and 51.5 mpg, one-up on a mix of interstate, county road and mountain roads.
