I recently bought a new front rim and had it powder coated.

There are no wheel bearings installed, Can I use the bearings from my stock rim or should I buy new ones? Is there a brand or two considered the best? Thanks.

Ceramic is very nice, but expensive! They run ~$400 a set for front + rear. I know they use them on NASCARs, and make them roll like a skate on ice.... but the sealed double row bearings used since 2000 are virtually maintenance free, good for 100k miles, and only cost ~$150 for front + rear.

A wheel bearing failure is catastrophic. Especially if you;re the one riding the bike at the time it fails.

I would go with the $400 a pair...

Ok, I'm basically an idiot so bare with me. My service manual either is hiding or does not contain the dimensions of my front wheel bearings. I know I have a one inch axle or ID. Now the rim is a Harley Rim. Is there a standard OD for these bearings or do I need calipers?
