When I rode my friend's 2001 Sportster the handlebars could only be locked with an actual padlock. When the handlebars were turned to the left two "grommets" (cause I don't know the technical term) lined up and then a padlock was locked through them. One "grommet" was located on the right frame and the other was underneath the right side of the handlebars (if I remember correctly). I do not know if that will be the same in your situation, but I would suspect so since your bike is 5 years older than my buddy's.

If your storing it inside (off the street) don't worry about it.

If your still worried change some of the people you know.

As stated, turn the handlebars fully left then look under the right side fork bottom clamp and there should be 2 holes lined up where the padlock attaches.
