Why Don't Harley Riders Wave To Sportbike Riders?

Being a sportbike rider, I've noticed that pretty much every time I wave to someone on a Harley they don't wave back and I'm curious as to why most Harley riders do this.

Personally, I wave to every rider I pass regardless of what kind of bike they ride because I see the wave as a sign of respect to a fellow rider and as a way to acknowledge them and say "ride safe". So can someone please explain to me why 90% of the time I wave to you Harley riders all I get is this:

You know, I'm getting really tired of the whole wave thing. When I'm in a car, I don't wave to other cars. When I'm in a pickup, I don't wave at other pickups.

I happen to have a Corvette. Other Corvette drivers wave at me. Sometimes I see it and wave back. Sometimes I miss it. No big deal.

Now on bikes, it's even more confusing. Some Harley riders wave, some don't. Some sport bike riders wave, some don't. Some give a big arm wave. some just lift their fingers off the bar. I'm too busy paying attention to riding to try and figure out everyone's wave style.

I don't initiate a wave, but I'm not too stuck up or "cool" that I don't return one when I see it. Can't we just admire each other's rides without all the wave crap? I'm not so insecure that I need someone to wave at me so that I feel like I have another friend in the world. But I don't want to be an AH for not returning one. Let's just stop waving and ride. It's a hell of a lot easier and safer.

Instead of waving, lets just buy each other a beer when we stop for a cold one.

Let's stop the confusion.

Several years ago had a summer gig in central Missouri and back then at least every one waved, I had this light on a 18 inch flex-rod that plugged into cigarette lighter aux plug.

I just made it stick straight up and put a glove on it, made it easy on me cause sometimes I didn't pay attention to folks waving" at me!

Only 2 hours? Your obviously not nearly dedicated enough to this topic.

I've put full length mirrors all around the house and yard. Every time I pass one I wave to myself. Luckily they always return the wave or I would feel pretty chitty about myself.

This has been going on for weeks. My wife thinks I'm a little crazy, but I don't think she appreciates the seriousness of the wave. I've tried to explain that if another rider doesn't wave back to me, that rider must know me personally, or at least have heard about me indirectly, and doesn't like me for some reason. That hurts my feelings.

Yeah, it is nuts here. It can be a 8 lane highway and someone a quarter mile a way on an overpass will wave. There really should be a distance requirement to even attempt wave initiation.

I do wave if passing another bike because in my mind it is letting the cars know that we kinda stick together. If I am going through an intersection and need both hands, oh well. If I wave and somone doesn't wave back I simply pull over so I can sob uncontrollably in a safe environment.

I don't wave to scooters because many of those ass bags are only on the scooter because they can't get a licenses from serveral DUIs. Screw them.

I don't initate the wave to sport bikes normally. If I have a buddy that has one, I will ride with him but normally between the gearing and riding style it doesn't flow well. Sometime I wave to cars with my middle finger because they threw a cigarette at me or are too distracted to honor my personal right to not eat guardrail.

Sometimes when passing a large group of patched rough looking dudes, I do the miss America wave. I think I need to seek help for that though but the wtf looks are too priceless.

Only time I don't wave to another biker is when I got my hand on the clutch or I'm trying to avoid that big cement wall separating the lanes.

I wave to motor cops all the time, they never seem to wave back. :dunno Must be the area.
