Here in PA , we'll usually get a stretch of winter where riding is just not practical. Cold , snow , ice.

So that's when I like to do my mods and major maintenance.

I've been gathering my parts for planned mods to my '97 FLHPi.

V&H Big Shot Tru-Duals w/fishtails
Power Commander
Andrews EV-27 cam
LED tail light
Kuryakyn Silver Bullet rear turn signals & bar
Kuryakyn Silver Bullet front turn signals (maybe the new driving light turn sig units)
black fork lowers and covers.
black rocker box spacers.
braided stainless brake lines

What are YOU planning?

Well it's always nice enough to ride down in Louisiana but I do have some things to do.

- Samson true dual headers into 36 inch Cholos

- Progressive suspension to drop the back a couple inches

- Strip off those big ass turn signals and put on some smaller ones

- Mammoth wheels. Wanting a 21 inch thin up front

Here in the Enchanted Mitten I've got about 5 months of down time with the muddy backazz country roads we live on, so yep I got plans.

1) Rivet and powder coat fuel tank
2) Swap out handle bars for some mini apes or perhaps clip-on's but still not sure what way I want to go just yet.
3) relocate ignition
4) raise tank
5) 180 rear tire

:know s'gonna be a good winter...

got plans don't got money. Here in ny they put salt and acid on the roads to eat anything that travels on them so from the day they predict ice on the road to half way thru spring (until this crap gets washed off the roads) my bike will be parked. but i will some what strip it down and clean it up. take the tins to be buffed and waxed. buy hard bags and get them painted to match the bike. maby buy a tour pack and paint to match if money allows. But i think I'm taped out for a wile.

1.) Cam chest inspection, with tensioner replacement if needed.

2.) Swing arm bearing service.

3.) Steering neck bearing inspection and service.

4.) Ride with new soft lowers.

I'm thinking of actually putting mine down this winter (first time in years). I'd like to do paint and that will take a few weeks. And, since it's down anyway, I'd like to do chrome on the sliders. And I bought some 12" Stainless apes last year, might as well get them on.

But that won't be until January, I'll ride until then.

Last Sept. I had the bike repainted when I got it. I slapped a decal on that I liked at the time. Now after looking at it and thinking about it for a year I don't like it so much. So I'm going to try my hand at removing the decal and painting a new logo on it myself. I figure if I eff it up I can always just take it in and have it redone professionally. I've always felt that the best way to learn is by doing.

+1, I agree. A wise old man once told me:

"good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment."

In other words you have to try something and muddle around with it before you get good at it.

in my 40+ years of working on bikes I've had lots of "oh crap" moments and plenty of very proud self satisfied moments doing stuff my self.

There is no real down time in Houston. There are a few weeks I can actually wear my leather jacket.
Front Hub caps, Chrome and black rubber grips (Maybe Chrome brake reservoir and threaded lines), chrome fork upgrades.
Wear down the tires
If I get a great bonus, then S&S 585 Cams and the internal upgrades and stiffer clutch, but this may be next year.

I was planning on selling to upgrade to a deluxe, but no one's buying. So, since I'm pretty close to paying the fugger off, I figure I'll just keep it as an around town cruiser and then get my deluxe in 2013.

So, this winter. I'm killing the 14 inch apes/2 inches risers and going with 1 inch risers (do they go any lower?) and adding on a skinnier set of apes that go about 16 or 17 inches. I also plan on killing the saddle bags and ugly ass brackets that are underneath them, but I may wait until next winter to do that since I'll probably be riding the bike next summer before upgrading. After that, it'll be a mean, clean beast of a machine.
