A couple of my riding buddies are leaving tomorrow for Guatemala to go to the national HOG rally.
I am struggling over going or not.
There will be a group of riders to meet us at the border to help get the required papers for the bikes and such.
I'm kind of on the fence on going. I don't think there will be any problems and it might be my only chance get to know Guatemala. I know that I wouldn't go solo.
Hmmm....First real ride of the year and getting to see new country. Still trying to decide.

Actually, I was looking for the saddle bag liners about the time (3 minutes) that lakedrunk posted the first reply.

The bags are packed. We leave at 8:00 tomorrow AM.

Made it back.

Well, we made it back yesterday safe and sound.
What a blast!!!
We ended up with 5 bikes (2 RoadGlides, 1 RoadKing, 1 FatBoy and an ElectraGlide) and 1 car.(Mustang)
Once we crossed the border into Guatemala the road conditions were surprisingly better than in Mexico. The downside was LOTS of traffic and we had to pass thru about 50 km worth of construction. But, still better than in Mexico.
We traveled in all 1,588 miles. The trip down was 2 days as well as the return.
Ended up driving about 4 hours in the dark in Guatemala.
Was concerned and never would have done it but we had 2 excellent local amigos who led the way and briefed us on the trip.
The meet itself was great! Lot's of really nice bikes. Lots of customs as well as touring bikes. Maybe about 200 bikes in all. Don't really know as I didn't have time to ask.
Am definitely going to return next year.
