hi guys, i am new to harleys but not bikes or biking, have just bought damaged 2001 softail part of damage is the tank, are these tanks a harley only part or are they fat bobs, and if they arent fat bobs does anybody know what is the biggest fat bob i can fit on the standard bike. cheers stig

"Fatbob" is a term directed at Harely, because they're tanks were generally wider than any one elses.
You can buy a "fatbob" tank from any MFG'er, aftermarket or OEM. I've seen 6 gallon tanks on Harleys, obviously made in the aftermarket world.
Ebay wil yield you the best prices for OEM, if that's what you decide.
JPCycyles.com sells all kinds of tanks that would fit your bike, based on year/make/model. They also sell 6 gallon tanks. Not sure if 7 gallon tanks are made.

I knew someone in the UK that made himself a set of 7.5 gallon tanks himself. Took 2 sets of 5 gal fatbobs and cut and spliced them together.
