You might very well have a carburetor in need of cleaning, the ethanol laced fuels we have these days play havoc with CARB's.

Could also be the gas cap vent is not working and your getting restricted fuel flow out of the tank, a easy way to test, when it's riding season, loosen the cap after the rough running appears, then leave partly loose for a couple miles does the problem go away? If yes, new gas cap might be a solution, if rough running continues, the cap is probably OK, and likely it's the CARB is in need of a tune-up/cleaning.

There might be a leaking vacuum hose running from the manifold to the petcock vacuum switch, replace it.

Okay so I just googled most every word in that sentence LOL. You mean put some kind of a cap where the hose meets the body of the carburetor instead of just capping the other end of the hose as I have because there could be a pinhole leak in the hose? I went to JP Cycles and tried to find stub-hose cap. It didn't come back with anything. I apologize, I really am new to all this. Think newborn but literate LOL.

Thanks!

Sorry, I miss read what you said earlier, in that the port was still open.

And then again, if there is a pin hole or crack on this hose, then stubby plug would be the better fix

Welcome to the forum, enjoy the experience of getting grease under your fingernails, nothing better than the reward of fixing problems, but if you run into issues .... Indy shops are usually more willing to bail you out than franchise dealers.
