:whiteflagO.K., having a real challange, can't get the pins out of the 2 position AMP multilock connectors for the rear turn signals on a 1996 EGC, it is the male side because I am trying to get the signels off to paint the rear fender.
Yes I have the manual, yes the secondery lock is open, no I do not have the "Special tool" they call for.... Any good ideas what and how to use, I feel really stupid that I can't get these off!!!

Many thanks in advance for any help!!!

If you aren't going to / can't buy a tool . . . the big pins that are used in disections are fantastic; the "T" top allows all sorts of leverage and control in directions you can't imagine.

Be patient, good luck,
Rick.

I've got several tools I made to release the little latches on those terminals and they work better than the "special" tool. A lock pick with a filed end works well or also a small eye glass screw driver with a filed end.
Also if you plan on pulling the wires thru the directional standoff stalks you'll have to cut the terminals off the wires !

Thanks all for your suggestions, I'm going back in tonight!!!! Wish me luck:rollin

Sooooo Schmidty, what your saying is I'm kicking a dead horse up hill?? Once I get the connector apart I am still going to have to cut the pins off??? If so I might as well cut the little buger right now and just replace the assemble and or pins in that one half like Baldrick suggested... I think if I had it sitting on a bench in good light it might be a little eaiser to get off, or at least smash the heck out of it with a hammer once I give up on it....:think

By the way is it Baldrick or Bald Rick, because I'm starting to resemble the second one!!!

:thanks

A hardwood trim nail did the trick..... I was trying to use something to large before, nipplesuffer gave me the idea, again thank you kind sir's.....

Now I'm having an issue with the tail light, but am going to take another stab at it tommorow before throwing in the White towel.
I know it sounds hard to believe but I have the bike pretty much stripped down, including the inner fairing being off. But this darn rear fender is just kicking my arz.......:mad

If cutting and replacing the terminals they're available thru J&Ps but ya really need the crimper tool to crimp them to the wires correctly or they won't fit into the plastic connectors. The tool isn't that expensive, also sold at J&Ps.
The only place the wires won't pull thru with the terminals still attached is the turn signal stalks from what I remember.
Another thing if reusing the terminals after removing them. Take your removal pick and bend that little terminal lock tab back up so it'll lock in place in the connector.

Thanks again for the help, my wires pulled right thru the stalks on mine without having to remove the pins.

Like I said it is crazy that I haven't been able to get all the wires off of the rear fender..... I'm down to the tail light... The little bugger has three wires going to it, the netural is a spade connector (no issues), the other two appear to be some sort of spring loaded connector that make contact with the bottom of the bulb in the socket. Do I need to remove (force) the socket out of the brake light housing in order to remove these or just cut them, soder and shrink wrap when putting back together?

Okay so your lights don't have the round stalks, they're the elongated ones. Ya the wires fit thru those easy.
Your tail light wires need to be disconnected at the other end, they don't come off at the tail light housing. I've got a brand new tail light assy sitting on my work bench right now, the wires with terminals are about 3 feet long. It's a factory new assy.
Unplug the wires at the connector at the front of the fender, probably under the seat area, and pull them all the way out with the tail light housing. Gotta fish them thru the metal clips in the fender.

Thanks again for your help!!!!
Don't know why but it never crossed my mind that the wiring harness whould stay with the tail light.....
Since I had everything else disconneted it was easy to pull the 8 place main connector apart and pull all the wiring through the whole for the brake light.

Just completed a signal relocation myself. I wanted to retain the factoryness of the wiring so I puchased the pins myself. I used the end of a compass, the pointed end works fine. Note is you go to a Harley dealership for these pins the numbers for the sockets and pins are backwards. Easy to do after a few times. Hardest part is crimping pins on wires if you don't have the right tool. I ended up soldering them on good to go. There is a great utube video on how to do this also.
