broken fairing brackets?

So the other night I was out on a ride and stopped along a local beach. When I went to get on and leave I turned the front wheel and heard a loud snap. Thought it was funny but didn't think much of it. On the way home the stereo stops working. Turned it off and back on and it worked the rest of the way home. The next day while stopped at a light the fairing was flopping around like crazy. I haven't taken it apart yet but I suspect I broke a fairing mount. Can anybody else that broke a bracket describe how bad the fairing shakes with a broken bracket?

I've repaired many broken vertical fairing support brackets and the bike's owners didn't even realize the brackets were broken, no shaking or rattling ! You can check them without removing the outer fairing. Just remove the windshield screws and the two by the speakers, pull the windshield out and pull the fairing away forward. The brackets break right at the top where they screw to the inner fairing. The speaker brackets usually break too.

There is a kit available on ebay that is made by some guy up in Michigan that you can use to repair them. It seems a little pricey for what it is, but it is made very well.

I discovered it when I was putting my front end back together after my little fender bender. I decided to install them as reinforcement of my new brackets, but they all work to repair broken ones.

The biggest benefit of them is that it makes the repair a quick and easy job. Completely replacing the brackets is a pain the arse.

FWIW, I have no affiliation with this guy. I just know I bought these and they worked as he said they did. They are accurately machined and made of a good, stout steel. He shipped them fast when I ordered. As said, I found them on ebay.

Thanks Schmidtys! I'll take a look tonight. I've heard that they are notorious for breaking and that most times people don't know it. Without looking I'm guessing one may have been broken and now they both are. I sure hope thats the issue with my radio. I really don't want to replace/repair it.

Evidently one of my brackets had been broken for a long time. I had casually checked them a couple of times and thought they were ok. When I was putting my tweeter pod in, I noticed the fairing moved and not the bolt to the fairing. When I pulled it apart, the break was quite rusted, so it had been awhile. I fabbed new ends (both sides) and bolted them to brackets, easy job with scrap metal. When all back together, the low rpm buzz from the windshield was gone!

I just fixed mine last night with his kit. super easy. when mine were broke it shook worse with the front brake applied. Pull your windsheild bolts last. I did mine first and the fairing fell forward and hung by the wires.

I had the left fairing bracket and both speaker brackets broken on my UC. I was at the dealer and picked up the two new speaker brackets and used a small L bracket, available at any hardware store, to repair the fairing mount, still had to drill, so a cheaper fix. The L bracket was like $0.50.

All that vibration has stopped now.
