So my husband was putting a shifter sensor in his 03 Road King and a small screw fell INSIDE the transmission. All I hear is cussing from the garage because he can’t get it out. He’s tried using the magnet and also flushing it. We’ve both been searching online for solutions but no luck. Trying to avoid that huge dealership bill if possible. Any suggestions before he starts throwing things would be appreciated!

Just remove the top cover, 5 Allen screws is all ... it's just a cover nothing else.

 

I know he’s been trying to find it with the flexible magnet but no luck yet. I’ll pass along all the suggestions I get! Meanwhile, I’ll just keep handing him cold beers.....

On the side note of blowing a gasket, NEVER, NEVER blow compressed air into the trans case thru the breather hose or it'll blow all the left case seals out !!! :whoa

No, seriously, is he using a flexible magnet? If it it just a telescopic he might not be able to get the right angle of the dangle. Harbor Freight has some cheap flexible ones.

 

Thumbs up Southernman_67 on the Harbor Freight tip. Get a magnet that's on the end of a long flexible wound metal stalk. Fish around for it. Tell him you have smaller hands and can operate it better. Save the day!

 

Thanks for the thumbs up, but, alas I fear it is too late to save the day. Rosie gave a valiant effort to maintain the sense of normalcy in her home, but unfortunately, the alcohol she was feeding her man won out. He snapped, and beat her with the magnet. She called the cops on him, then as they drug him away kicking and screaming, she yelled out, “Don’t take him, he’s my man and I love him!” The cops couldn't understand her through her battered lips and missing teeth, and thought she said, “ Get him close to the oncoming van and shove him.” At least that’s what I read in the papers....

Maybe not, but it's a pretty good stress reliever.

I usually take a break before I get that bad. Smoke a cig, drink a coffee or brew. Then go back at it.

Try blasting some shop air in with top cover off or on. Things tend to fly around a bit, might get lucky. Found lost nut that way.

Really sucks on Friday afternoon with weekend starting.
