As several others have already stated, I learned how to shift a bike over the years by sound and feel. My '08 Fatboy feels and sounds fine in fifth at 60 MPH all day long. Sixth gear to me feels like economy/overdrive mode. I usually save sixth gear for long straight highways, but I have found that I can shift into sixth at 55 MPH and it sounds and feels fine- no pinging on accelleration. (I should note that the bike has V&H Shortshots and a Stage I air filter and requisite EFI tuning). If I need to climb a hill or pass someone, no problem- I downshift as necessary.

Concerning the OP's post, I have never experienced any difference in turbulence whether I am in 5th or 6th gear. I have all the buffeting I need since I don't have a windshield, lol.:laugh

to OP wait until the engine is broken in before using 6th gear much..also dont ride at any rpm for very long ..keeep the rpms moving up/down once you have about a thousand miles on it let us know if its still doing it..i bet it wont..

I have less than 400 miles on my 11 Heritage and after 3 years with the heavy weight of an 08 Ultra, I am having fun again on this bike. I find running at 2000 to 2500 rpm seems to be just about right. I won't lug the engine or over-rev it. Some people "ride like they have stolen it", I, being an older rider am "riding it like I am paying for it". Have to respect a bike that is built like the 2011 Heritage Softail Classic. I am loving it. Mods are passenger floorboards, J&M cb/ic unit, saggy bag kits and locks for the leather saddlebags.
