Hi all new! to forum but not new to Harley’s. Was wondering is 40k+ miles a lot for a touring style bike on the used market? I’m looking to get a touring bike but the market around me is 10k+ dollars for a bike that has 40k miles or more. My budget is around 10k or less for 20k miles or less preferably.

A bagger with 20K miles for $10k... Good luck with that!
A $30,000 bike is not going to drop 2/3 off the price in 20K miles, unless it has came to a very sudden stop.

My Ultra is right at 40K miles now. I would consider it a insult for someone to offer 10 k for it!
I know many Ultras and SGS's with over 100K miles on them and still running as strong or even stronger than the day they left the showroom. It's all about the maintenance and TLC.

Sure you could find one in the low miles and price your seeking, but BUYER BEWARE! It's going to need a bunch of TLC to get it where you want it.

Miles don't get put on bikes that don't run.

Definitely is different by location. Both my riding buddies have 2015 SG that they got for 12,500 18k miles and a 13 I believe. SG 11k with 21k miles

40k miles, in my opinion, is no issue whatsoever for a modern HD bagger. There's a chance of something going wrong at any time whether it's 400 miles or 40k miles. But in general if the price is right, that mileage wouldn't bother me personally.

Based on my own experiences, I'm starting to become a believer that keeping them moving is better than letting them sit. I'd be more worried over an older low mileage bike.

Three years ago I paid in the neighborhood of 10k for an 07 ultra classic with 28k on the clock. No records, not much came back on the vin search, just rolled the dice and took a chance. Creeping up on 50k now with barely a hiccup. Upgraded cams at 35000 miles. It's about time to do some work that I have been putting off, forks and such that are just a pita with the fairing, check the compensator over some sounds it's starting to make, usual service and wear items. Money well spent and I expect to ride this bike for many years to come.
At this point I would consider $10,000 to be a lowball offer for it.
