Oil tank lines?

So one of the lines running to my 2006 Sportster 883 oil tank has broken off. The nipple from the oil tank actually broke off into the line.

Does anyone know which line this is, what it's for, and if it's absolutely needed?

I'm trying to avoid buying a new oil tank, so I want to know if it's necessary, and if it is, if it would be worth it to try to glue it or solder the nipple back on?

Pics below. (Sorry the pics are rotated to the left)

Yes, it is absolutely necessary. You could try to JB weld it back together, and if you take your time and do it right, it may hold for a while. When will it fail, and when do you want it to fail? Get an oil tank. I bet you can find a used one online.

I responded to another post of yours about the service manual. There is not an authorized manual to download. You can look on eBay, or your dealer probably has one in stock, if not he can order it for you. They’re about $65.00 new, but I promise you it will be the best money you spend on your bike.

So I was able to unbolt the oil tank and disconnect the lines. It's loose :)

Which way is the oil tank supposed to slide out? Towards the battery side (left), or towards the belt guard (right)?

If battery side, I assume the battery has to be removed. If the other way, I assume you have to disconnect the rear shock and remove the belt guard.

Please let me know! (the service manual doesn't seem to show this)

Bob, Vincent is Canada. It might be more expensive there.

Vincent, try E Bay or what ever you folks up north use for used parts sales.

Looks like I also had to remove the rear fender. Finally got the oil tank out though!

Anyhow, as I'm putting things back together I noticed there's a wire going to a gray plug near the oil tank mounts and I can't seem to figure out where it goes or what it's for. Where does this plug back into?

Has to be male connector dangling some where. Or a sensor on engine/trans …..there usually right in front of your nose despite looking every place.
