I sprang the $150 for the H-D digital dipstick -- read for oil temp and oil level. Probably had it 18 month, or less.
Replaced the battery when the display started going weak on me.
But the REAL problem on this unit is that I get condensation and a "dark shadow" in the display area. I've taken it apart, checked the seals, actually set the unit in front of forced air heating for several days to get the condensate out of the interior.
Last night I need some room in the garage to work on a cannon I'd just purchased. (That's another thread in Joe Mama. "Lyle Gun.") Bike sitting out in a drizzle, not hard rain, for about an hour. This is WAY LESS wet exposure then if I were riding at speed in the rain.
Display area is totally fogged, like the inside of a shower stall. Display is dark, unreadable.
Dealer says it's not covered on warranty. I can't believe H-D can't engineer something that won't do an LED fail, attract moisture, fog up, and otherwise crap out in less than two years.
$150 -- Not exactly chicken-feed for a dipstick! :cussing
-- AND, FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW -- "H-D Customer Service is not currently able to receive email."
I have it explained in text. I want to send the text to H-D in an EMAIL. This is the 21st Century for gawd's sake!
