Ride by Wire Throttle Problem

I was at a stop light and when the light turned green I rolled on the throttle. Everything felt fine at first but all of sudden the throttle response was gone. The throttle turned but no forward movement. It did it two more times within a minute or two and I pulled over and called my Harley dealership and told them what was going on. They offered to come get me but I wasn’t that far from them so I said I would try to make it. I made it to the shop without it happening again. The shop guy told me when he brought the bike into the shop there was no throttle response when he first tried to move it. They had to keep it overnight as they couldn’t get to it until the next morning. When they called me and told what was wrong I was rather relieved. It was a simple issue. Somehow the throttle assembly had been moved to the right just barely not enough to notice. And something in the ride by wire system wasn’t contacting what it was supposed to be contacting and so no throttle response. They moved everything back to where is was supposed to be and tightened it up and I‘ve had no more issues. Anyone else have this sort of thing happen to their bike with the ride by wire setup? Cost me 65 bucks but that felt more than fair as I had no idea what could be causing the problem.

The grip could've moved enough to disengage trom twist sensor. Didn't mention year or type of grips.

Maybe, but the TBW grip has a tab on it that rides in a channel in the control cover. That small amount of play you see in a tbw bike is all it can move. I suppose if the entire system slipped, it could do it, but the only spring that returns the grip to the neutral throttle position is in the sensor. If it came loose, the throttle grip would just free float and not return. The issue should have been obvious.

I agree with you that the explanation didn’t make much sense but that’s what they told me and since I‘ve gotten it back it hasn’t done that again. They did check their records to see who installed the grips that are on the bike. They said if they had installed them they weren’t gonna charge me. They did put the grips on when I first bought the bike before I even to custody of the bike. So maybe that’s why it wasn’t in the system. On the day this happened I did park on a very steep hill that I had to use a lot of force to get the bike off the kick stand. I wondered if I pulled something loose doing that. I’m just glad it’s fixed.

X-2 about the grip slipped. That's my vote!

The outermost portion of the grip (farthest from the bar end) has the female gear. The Twist Grip Sensor has the male gear right at the end of the handle bar. Any force away from the bar could cause this to move just enough to disengage the two gears.
