Shaded or clear windshield?

I'm looking to order a new Long Rides recurve windshield to cut down on the buffeting and thought of trying a light tint but I'm not really sure yet if thats the way to go or if I should stay with a clear windshield. I dont ride in the dark much but when I do I dont want my vision impaired at all. Since I ride a Deluxe I'm looking through the windshield all the time rather than over it. Hitting a 50# porcupine or worse yet a moose at 60 mph would really put a crimp in my evening and they really come out on the roads here a lot in the fall. The benefit of your experience would be appreciated!

The tint is primarily for esthetics, IMO. I've run the tinted LRS for a couple of years off and on and I still like both clear and tinted. But I don't ride at night often. I think if I did a lot of night riding, I would stay with clear.

I would stick with clear, just carry some dark tinted glasses for the sun. Rode one at night with a tinted windshield and sometimes an on coming car's headlights would glare off the tint and give me some blind spots that a clear windshield wouldn't have.

Clear comes in real handy when caught in the rain, not sure I'd like the idea of looking through something tinted with sunglasses on. I don't ride much at night anymore either.

I have a med tint LRS recurve on my Street Glide but I rarely ride at night. I also look over the windshield, not thru it. Part of the reason I bought the recurve to begin with was so I could get it short enough to look over it while at the same time having the wind pushed up and over. I think they recommend that the height be somewhere between upper lip and the nose. It does make the bike look a lot better IMHO, but on bright sunny days I think it helps cut down on the glare too.

The Madstad shield on my RG has a very light tint and I usually look over it, not through it. I was going to order the clear till the company rep told me their light tint model really was VERY light, actually hardly any tint at all so that's what I ordered. I ride very little at night but carry a pair of clear goggles so if I am out after dark I can flip up my helmet dark tinted eye shield and use the clear goggles. The few times I have been out after dark the light tint on my shield doesn't seem to bother or hinder me in any way even when I am looking through the shield rather than over it. But I would not want a dark tinted shield after the sun goes down.

If you hit a moose you will be hard pressed to blame the windshield LOL:wink

Well, yes youre right, but they like to hang out right off the edge of the road and they're hard to see sometimes. For some reason they seem to wait until a vehicle is going by to cross too.

I posted this in another thread yesterday but I called LRS and they suggested ordering one that would be mustache high so you look over it more than through it, so with wifeys help we measured and I ordered an 18" clear recurve in polycarbonate last night. I forgot to ask but since its more expensive I assume its the better material.

I have experienced a lot of turbulence with my stock shield and I have seen the subject raised a few times so I'll be sure to note the difference. I hope its substantial.
