Shift Lever(s), shaft, bushings .... opinions

Been hearing a rattling/vibration, metal sounding, especially at speeds around 70 and up coming from somewhere in the front. I checked everything up on my jack and I've narrowed it down to the shift lever and or shaft and bushings. the front lever had come loose in the Spring and I probably stripped the teeth some before it gave completely. I was able to tighten it when I got home but there is some slop still. seems to be a little in the shaft as well. I pulled the front and rear off tonight and the teeth are a bit worn on parts of the inner shaft as well as the lever. The were both labelled '1' on the inside so I just swapped the rear to the front, still on the inner teeth but its firm. I don't ever really use the rear but I can get a new (used) lever on ebay for $20 so may. The shaft I will probably replace as well since they're relativel inexpensive also, under $20. I saw one on ebay for $18, aftermarket.
I'm thinking about doing the bushings too since they're cheap enough but the tool to do it goes for $90 and I'll probably do it once. Thoughts?

I ordered one of the levers from ebay for $20 (free shipping) but I'm going to see if I can get the shaft from my local dealership (not the way it sounds). I'd rather an OEM one rather than aftermarket just to be sure the tolerances aren't minutely off to see if I can get away without replacing the bushings first.

This is the tool though for replacing the bushings. The tool mfg says that the life of the bushings are about 20k miles so might be worth doing it anyway.

got the parts at the local Dealer. The shaft was $22. I could've got one for $12 on Amazon but aftermarket. Probably no difference but I'd rather support the locals and eliminate any possible tolerance differences

Finally got around to replacing the shaft, bushings and front lever tonight. Took about a half hour and no issues. The new lever though has a metric bolt so I'm not liking that. Its OK for the $20 it cost but I was expecting OEM.

They didn't before either. The front one wore out before and I got a new one from HD and they gave me one just like the one on the metric, though SAE. I suppose I could use the old one on the rear to make them match but I'm not too concerned. I'll have to price a new OEM front one this week that might come with a full rubber one, not sure.

The new(er) lever came today. Great shape, but a couple surprises. I'm assuming though its the result of an updated part. The part number 33895-82E is the same for my 2002 Road King Classic. I thought I could just swap in the old bolt not present in the new one. No go though, the newer one requires one much larger. The closest I could find was a 5/16 - 18 x 3/4. At least it will be all SAE. Odd too that they beefed up the bolt but reduced the thickness of the lever.
