Son's first ride...

Some time has past since I last posted on this great forum...Today was a proud moment for me and I thought I would share it where I thought it would be appreciated...This is my eldest Son's first ride as the rider on my bike, I was apprehensive but I new the blood would come through, after a couple of miles he was riding pretty good for his first time on a Harley..no lugging, correct gear changes and took it easy.

Fantastic! :thumb

I still remember the first time my dad let me take his Harley out for a solo ride, an '82 Ironhead Roadster.

Proud moment, indeed! Congratulations, JayD!

Well i'm in the USA touring around with my wife in a RV at the moment, so far we have been up the west coast into Canada across the bottom or top of the USA...I will be in the States for another 4 mths finishing up at Sturgis 76th rally, it only took me a life time to get here and I carry battlescares from living! now, I'm hiring a Harley to go to Sturgis on in Denver...so who would like to ride with me to Sth Dakota, then to Sturgis? or even just ride a couple of miles with an older biker from Australia? let me know, and I will organise to meet up with you. (please remember I cant blast off too far ahead of my old lady, however our Rv can cruise at 70 mph no dramas)

As the anniversary of my visit to the Collision meet and greet approaches, my bike is off to Richardson's Harley Davidson in Prospect near Launceston, my drive belt has had it's day and has teeth that are split from the front to almost to the back of the tooth.

I was lucky with this breakdown as I discovered it in my garage as I was doing some maintenance on her...a kind breakdown as it could have been a thousand miles from home on my way home strapped for cash after a long run, i do have my bike insured and help is one phone call away...but it's the thing of riding her home tail in air after a great run! now, that didnt happen this time, as I said, I found it before the worst happened.

So as I cant ride it with the belt like that i called them up to come get her and and change out the belt and pulley's. here are photo's of her going to the Dr's.

Here she is getting picked up to go to the Dr's to get new final drive belt and pulley installed, and parked out side waiting for me to open up her home.

We went for a ride today before the real bad winter weather starts, my bike just outside of Beaconsfield, you may have heard of this little Tasmanian town a couple of years back when two miners were trapped underground for quite some time and both were rescued alive, and parked outside of Burt Munro's Cafe at Exeter(Worlds fastest Indian), it was a beautiful crisp autumn day.

The bike is a little more exciting with the belt will actually turn the rear wheel, I bet.

It's been a long time since ive logged on and thought its time to dust this old thread off. I have been home from my travels for around 5 years now, during this time i have been establishing the next phase of my life and following my passion for the things i do. Along with my daughter her husband and my wife we have built two distilleries, two years on after my bike being off the road waiting for me to turn my attention back to her...well this is how it went, I pulled it out off storage to be under my constant view, walking past it for a month or so...typical flat battery that i worked on for weeks until i finnally threw in the towel and purchased another put it charge for 24hrs and a couple of weeks passed as we're in the middle of winter here in Tasmania, sitting at my dinning room table witch we also have breakfast at watching the poring rain and the odd sunny day...did i say odd sunny days...can you hear the goofy footsteps, well that me starting to think...you know what i mean? I intalled the battery and could not stop, yep like alcoholic, junky what ever and couple of hours later im back on the road again, freezing rides at times but very enjoyable and like a tonic for my mental well being...im still sitting at my dinning table looking our my window waiting for the next clear blue sky day to go for a ride... here a photo of my bike in my distillery for you all to see.
