It will prolly sell a little in the big cities...especially in the south where the ridin' weather is better, but....I don't think it will make it IMHO! As far as any "photo-receptive panels" in the future...the oil companies will buy up that technology as quickly as it is invented, just as they have any EFI or carb that gave exceptional mileage. Hope the MoCo has a ton of cash in reserve to see if this experiment will work!!

the pan american was mentioned here also. id bet thats gonna be a shot in the other foot. theyll way overprice it, and underpower it, then expect to compete with bmw and ktm. good luck on that one. its not my goal to bash harleys attempts to get a better market share. it just seems to me that theyre jumpin in the swimming pool holding a tractor weight, then expecting to outswim some olympic gold medalists.

Yep Dave...I would like for them to succeed also, but geezzz, can't they see the market for what it is??? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that $30K + won't fly!!! I wonder how many dealers will go for it also...especially if it costs them bucks to install the 220V recharge station(s)!!

i would be willing to bet the moco is gonna make it a mandatory deal for the larger dealers, just like they did with the "all-look-alike" thing a few years back.

Yep...maybe some of the larger dealers can afford it...and the larger ones are in large metro areas where the Livewire might sell more easily, but $30K + is still stretchin' it a ton!!

Huh. And I thought for sure you were going to blow your newly found Home Depot earnings on a Livewire. I guess hookers and blow won out again.

i think the next few years is going to be an interesting time in the motorcycling world. when indian started back up, i had some serious reservations about them. mainly, about their parent company, polaris. but, they seem to be kickin butt. theyve taken WAAAY more of hd's business away from them than i imagined they would. im kind of conflicted about matt levatich. he's either going to prove to be a visionary for the company, or the one who causes it maybe irreversible damage. if this livewire thing flops bigtime, mr levatich will probably be looking for employment elsewhere. it may not have been his brainchild, but he'll take the fall for it.
....and lol on jimmers opting for the hookers and blow! im likin that choice!

Waaaaaaay overpriced. Had it been around $12k, maybe, $30k is insane.
Hey, this is Harley Davidson we are talking about. The word "overpriced" is not in their dictionary.

I've seen two. Sitting for sale on the HD showroom floor. Husband & wife bought matching bikes, traded them in 2 weeks later for HOGs. :D

cager...there are those that do have that kind of money. i talked to a local car/motorcycle dealer who has a customer that trades all his bikes and cages every year, no matter the mileage. he had one of this guy's bikes sitting in the showroom. a year old with less than 200 miles on the odometer. i asked why the guy trades em in. the dealer's answer..."because he can". he said the guy had told him on numerous occasions that he hated to trade this vehicle, or that one because he really liked it, but the year was up, so, it got traded in. crazy.

Hard to imagine that the nicest (excluding a CVO) dressed out touring bike on the showroom floor will be cheaper than that fukin' electric toy.

Well, HD management, you've really outdone yourselves this time.
joe....i worked for a large corporation for several years. the stupidity of high ranking executives is astounding. decisions that they knew from the start were bad. i heard one make the comment one day "any change is always good". REALLY? sorry pal, the only thing that change ALWAYS is, is a change. its not always good. but thats the mentality of theses grossly overpaid idiots!

Oh yeah, my dad's one of 'em, but he's as stingy with his wallet as the day is long. I think he thinks he wants to leave a bunch of money, etc. to us kids and grand kids, and I'm always telling him to enjoy it now. Yeah, he has toys (2013 BOSS 302, Toyota Tundra, etc.), but they rarely get used because of the cost. I asked him once if I could drive the BOSS and he said - I've seen how you drive your Mustangs, I'm not planning on replacing my tires just yet. :grin

I've definitely learned to live a little over the last decade, but that's just crazy. What could have been so bad about those Indians that they had to get rid of them in 2 weeks? Money or not, I could never bring myself to do that.
